Q1 2015 U.S. Credit Card Issuer Snapshot
The first quarter of 2015 continued the trend of low loss rates, relatively strong purchase volume growth and favorable profitability. Competition remained intense in most industry segments highlighted by Costco’s announcement that it would transition its co-brand card from American Express to Citi and Visa in April 2016. Investments in rewards and mobile continue to be significant with Samsung Pay now in the queue for a U.S. launch. The pending launch of Plenti, a coalition loyalty program in the U.S. on the American Express platform is an interesting development.
